The Granite Grind 20th Feb 2010
The inaugaurel Granite Grind Mountain bike race (and opening day for the Lake Mountain trail park) went off without a hitch at the new Lake Mountain course. A bright windy day and perfect trail conditions brought smiles all round from competitors and organisers alike. The 180 riders enjoyed a mass start on road before being siphoned onto firetrail and then the course proper, the "Granite Grind" loop. The course was a great mixture of terrain, with a magnificent descent, riders treated to banked corners, "north shore" dropoffs and boulders. The fastest riders completed their first lap in around 35 minutes. Croydon Cycleworks team riders were prominent with Jason Halls (3rd outright) Tim Ferres (5th outright) and Andrew Meagher (1st under 19) our best finishers.

Great news from those crazy white coated Germans at Schwalbe tyres! In the constant quest for perfection in tyres, the new Ultremo R.1 racing tyre has been released to rave reviews. Weight has been reduced to 180 grams yet all characteristics have been retained, and casing strength increased. Ultra-light and at the same time extremly safe and durable. Faster: Triple Compound. Three optimized rubber mixtures. Fast, grippy, durable. Tougher: HD-V Guard. Puncture protection from high-density, woven Vectran. Patent-protected. Maximum defense. You won't find a better road racing tyre out there. You'll be hard pressed to pick the difference but the MTB lineup has been subtly revamped for 2010 offering better bead sealing and stronger sidewall casing with no change to weight. The Racing Ralph, Nobby Nic, Rocket Ron and Furious Fred tyres have taken the MTB world by storm in recent years and are the tyres of choice for discerning enthusiasts.
